Man charged with rape of woman, 18, in Edinburgh park

A man has appeared in court charged with the rape of an 18-year-old woman in Edinburgh.

Eduardo Lopes, 31, is alleged to have attacked the woman in Montgomery Street Park in the Hillside area of the city last month.

Lopes, of Somerset, made no plea during an initial appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday.

He was remanded in custody and will appear again within eight days.
