A former golf club building has been "destroyed" by a blaze, firefighters have said.

Crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) are continuing to monitor hotspots at the derelict structure in Christchurch Road, Longham.

The fire broke out at the building at about 18:00 BST on Friday and the fire service said it was extinguished by 22:22 BST.

In a statement at 12:00 on Saturday, DWFRS said: "The building has been destroyed by fire, multiple hotspots remain so we are keeping on crew on scene as a watching brief."

At its height, about 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at the former Dudsbury Golf Club building.

The fire service said crews found the structure "well alight" on Friday evening and previously advised residents to keep doors and windows closed.

The blaze was extinguished using three main jets, a ground monitor, aerial ladder platform and ten breathing apparatus, DWFRS explained.
