A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Loughborough town centre, police have said.

Leicestershire Police were called to reports of a stabbing in Ashby Square, shortly after 19:00 GMT on Thursday.

A man in his 40s was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition, the force said.

The 19-year-old man, from Leicester, has also been charged with having a bladed article in a public place and three counts of possessing a controlled class A drug with intent to supply.

He appeared before Leicester Magistrates' Court on Saturday before being remanded to appear before Leicester Crown Court in May.
