Two men have appeared in court over a firearms incident which saw police officers who were investigating the scene shoot an XL bully.

Police were called to a property on Daniel Hill Street in Sheffield at about 22:00 BST on 3 April to reports of a gun being fired. Officers shot an "aggressive" dog which then fled the property.

At Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday, Marcus Ned, 37, of Hoole Street, admitted charges including two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He denied possessing a prohibited firearm without permission.

Declan Arthurs, 19, of the same address, denied affray, possessing a prohibited firearm without permission and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Ned also admitted attempting to cause GBH with intent.

Mr Arthurs also pleaded not guilty to threatening a man with an offensive weapon, namely a machete, on Daniel Hill Street.

Both men will be sentenced at the conclusion of Mr Arthurs' trial.

Ned will not face trial because the charges he denied could be "absorbed" by the ones he admitted and would be sentenced for, the prosecution said.
