The £15m programme of works will see 105 streets in Coventry undergoing road or pavement treatment

£15m is to be spent repairing and improving a city's roads and pavements.

Coventry City Council cabinet members are expected to sign off on the improvement programme on Tuesday.

If agreed, it would mean 75 roads would be repaired, and a further 34 streets would get pavement upgrades, with four getting both.

Officials would also carry out repairs to larger road structures, improve drains, protect verges, and investigate flood protections for homes if plans go ahead.

The council confirmed most of the budget would be for road repairs or maintenance works with £3m for road improvements. These include improving signals, crossings and junctions and managing car speeds. Among them is the junction at Tile Hill Lane.

In addition, a number of highway maintenance schemes are scheduled, including resurfacing and repairs along London Road, Holbrooks Lane, Upper and Lower Eastern Green Lane, sections of the Ring Road, and parts of the A45, with further repairs planned for other priority roads across the city.

If the plans are agreed, all the schemes are scheduled to be completed by March next year.

Councillor Patricia Hetherton, cabinet member for city services, said:  "I think all residents will welcome this investment to make our roads and pavements safer for all.

"We will, as always, tackle the roads and pavements on a worst-first basis through the maintenance programme, and I'm pleased that we will continue to focus on pavements alongside roads and, of course, schemes to improve safety and reduce the number and severity of accidents."

She added: "Our officers also regularly inspect our roads and add any identified defects into the planned repair schedule.

"We realise that we cannot repair every road that we would like with the available funding, but we have prioritised the ones that need it the most."
