Restaurant demolition plan for hotel extension

A restaurant next to a city centre hotel is set to be demolished to make way for more rooms.
Budget hotel chain Premier Inn has submitted plans to demolish the former Bluebrick in Wolverhampton city centre and replace it with a new restaurant and 23 extra rooms.
The Bluebrick was known as one of the city's few pubs for away supporters on football match days before it closed last July – only remaining open to hotel guests.
The pub and restaurant was one of 100 venues next to Premier Inn hotels shut down by hospitality firm Whitbread last year as part of closures and planned conversions into extra hotel rooms.
The three-storey hotel extension would include a 94-cover restaurant and bar as well as 23 new rooms according to the application submitted to City of Wolverhampton Council.
This would increase the number of hotel rooms from 109 to 132.
A statement provided alongside the application stated that the hotel company had identified a "considerable demand" for budget accommodation in the area.
"This reconfiguration of the site will secure its economic future and support the local economy by ensuring the best use of available land to ensure the site will continue to flourish into the future," the statement said.
