Leaky market hall roof set for major repairs

Major repairs are to be carried out to fix a series of "significant defects" with Market Harborough's 32-year-old market hall.
Harborough District Council has appointed contractors to carry out a £716,000 renovation of the hall in Northampton Road.
The original tiled roof has cracks and leaks which cause problems for traders and shoppers, the authority said.
It had also become stained, overgrown with moss and lichen, and had approached the end of its serviceable life.
A spokesperson for the council said the repairs would start in July and take 12 weeks to complete.
"We will be working with the market traders to keep the disruption to a minimum," the spokesperson said.
"It isn't expected that there will be any closure to the trading days of the market hall."
The building's ageing lift has also broken down numerous times in recent months, the council said, causing disruption for traders, council officers and cleaners trying to access first-floor storage areas.
Work to modernise the lift is expected to take place over two months in the autumn.
