Fire crews tackle grass blaze on Wanstead Flats

About 70 firefighters have tackled a grass fire affecting 14 acres in north-east London, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
Ten fire engines and a wildfire response vehicle were called to Wanstead Flats, near Capel Road in Manor Park, earlier on Friday.
Station commander Darren McTernan said from the scene that crews had worked "in hot, arduous conditions" to bring the fire under control, by about 15:15 BST, and added that people were still being advised to avoid the area.
The brigade said it took more than 20 calls and sent crews from East Ham, Stratford, Leyton, Barking and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
People living in the area were asked to keep their windows and doors closed to prevent smoke getting into their homes.
