Cemetery receives prestigious Green Flag Award

A cemetery in Coventry has won a national Green Flag Award in recognition of its high standards.

London Road Cemetery is among six parks and green spaces, owned by the city council, that have been awarded the status after meeting strict criteria set out by Keep Britain Tidy.

The areas are judged by green space experts, including some of the city council's park management team, on criteria like sustainability, cleanliness and community involvement.

The award marks a real turnaround after complaints in May 2024 from a local resident, who described the overgrown state of the cemetery as "shocking" .

Longford Park, Caludon Castle Park, Allesley Park, Coombe Abbey Park and the War Memorial Park, which have also been recognised, have all won the award before.

The national scheme is one that rewards the best parks and green spaces in the UK, in a bid to encourage more outdoor spaces to strive for "high environmental standards".

The six sites in Coventry join 2,227 other parks and green spaces across the UK that have also received the Green Flag Award this year.
