Big wheel set to return to Worthing
Getty ImagesPlans to install an observation wheel in Worthing have been recommended for approval.
The 44-metre-high wheel with viewing gondolas will be located on the promenade opposite Montague Place.
It will operate from March to November until 2028, if the plans get the green light.
A Worthing Borough Council (WBC) planning document said the benefits of bringing visitors to the town centre and seafront outweigh the "limited harm" the wheel's height will have on nearby heritage buildings.
Getty ImagesThe attraction is close to several listing buildings, including the Pier, Lido and those within Montague Place.
It will only operate between 10 and 22:00, according to the WBC planning document.
A potential loss of privacy had been raised previously by some neighbouring residents, said the document.
It added that the "open nature" of the big wheel would not cause an "adverse impact through overshadowing".
A same-sized wheel was granted planning permission in 2024, while a 46-meter-high one was approved in 2019.
A final decision on the plans is set to be made on 26 March.
