Bus stop attack victim, 82, was ex-Army - family

An 82-year-old man who died after being attacked at a bus stop in Birmingham had served in the Army and was loving and caring, his family said.

Allen Karam Chand was attacked in Soho Road in Handsworth at about 15:30 GMT on 14 January and taken to hospital but died the following weekend.

A preliminary post-mortem examination revealed he died from a head injury, West Midlands Police said.

A man was charged with wounding after the attack but, following Mr Chand's death, a spokesperson for the force said they were reviewing the charge along with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The 43-year-old man appeared in court on 18 January and was remanded into custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 14 February, they added.

Mr Chand's family said: "Our father was loving, caring, and never deceived anyone."

He taught us "to respect the law as an ex-army man and we will always miss him", they added.

"Our father is not physically with us but he is alive with Lord Jesus."
