Drivers warned ahead of M4 overnight closures
Drivers using the M4 are being advised to plan their journeys and be aware of diversions ahead of planned overnight closures.
National Highways is carrying out essential resurfacing work on the eastbound carriageway between junction 14 for Hungerford and junction 15 for Swindon.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane and the hard shoulder will be closed for the next five nights, with the work carried out on weekdays from 21:00 GMT until 06:00.
A full carriageway closure will be in place on 27 January and for a further 15 nights over the following five weeks.
Membury services will remain open for the first three nights of work, but will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
'Vital work'
National Highways project manager, Victoria Bathe, said: "We apologise for any temporary disruption this may cause but this vital resurfacing work will provide a smoother, quieter road for both drivers and communities nearby for many years to come.
"We plan our work carefully to minimise disruption and we are carrying out the majority of this maintenance at night when traffic is at its lightest.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for their patience and remind those planning on passing through this section of the M4 – or using one of our diversion routes – to allow extra time to complete their journeys."
The work is due to be completed by 5 March.
