No evidence of pet poisoning at park, says council

There is "no evidence" that rat poison has been placed in a park, a council has said.

Reports on social media suggested that a dog had died after eating "suspected rat poison-laced chocolate" at Abington Park in Northampton.

The post, which has been shared hundreds of times, said rangers had patrolled the 117-acre (47-hectare) park on Monday warning dog walkers of the possible risk.

But while West Northamptonshire Council, which maintains the park, confirmed its rangers were "being extra vigilant", they said they had found no proof that poison had been planted there.

Northamptonshire Police added that it had not received any reports of rat poison in the park.
