More than 120 firefighters are using a water tower and drones as they tackle a blaze at a warehouse in east London.

London Fire Brigade said it was called to the warehouse, which appears to be a steel distributor, on New Road, Rainham, at about 10:20 GMT.

The fire brigade said most of the building was alight and the fire was producing a "significant" amount of smoke.

Local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed. New Road is closed and people are urged to avoid the area while the incident is ongoing.

LFB said a 105ft (32m) turntable ladder was being used as a water tower to help fight the fire from above, and a scientific adviser had been sent to monitor air quality in the area.

The brigade's drone team has been deployed to provide aerial images of the fire.

Fire crews from Wennington, Dagenham, Barking and surrounding fire stations are on the scene.
