Winter storms have shifted the golden sand creating a ridge along Weymouth Beach

A seaside resort's beach is set to close for four days so sand shifted in winter storms can be spread back out evenly.

The sand on Weymouth's beach has been moved around during high tides and strong winds creating a lengthy ledge.

Weymouth Town Council said it needed to be moved and levelled ahead of kiosks and beach attractions being set up.

The beach will shut between the Pavilion Theatre and the Jubilee Clock from 10-13 February between 08:00-19:00 GMT.

During the closure, barriers will be in place to block off entry and exit points to and from the beach.

The council said the work would allow "the beach to recover after winter and get ready for the season ahead".

The work will see diggers and dumpers working at the site over the four days to get the sand level.
