A man has been jailed for "leading and encouraging" violent disorder in the West Midlands in the wake of the Southport stabbings last year.

Adam Said was part of a large group which gathered in Bordesley Green on 5 August, with pockets of disturbances spreading to other parts of the city in the evening, police said.

The 19-year-old, of Washwood Heath Road, was found to be encouraging violence, as he drove around the city in a black Range Rover, said West Midlands Police.

At Birmingham Crown Court earlier he was sentenced to two years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to violent disorder.

During the incidents a Skoda car was smashed before a man was assaulted outside a pub in Stoney Lane.

Ch Supt Richard North of the force said it had been a complex investigation with an excellent outcome.
