A seven-year-old girl has been seriously injured in a quad bike crash, West Yorkshire Police have said.

The girl was thrown from the bike when it hit a telegraph pole in High Street, Kippax, at about 22:30 GMT on Thursday.

Police said the girl was receiving treatment for what they described as "serious and life-changing" injuries.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in relation to the incident, while a man and a woman, both in their 30s, have also been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

According to police, the girl had been a passenger on the bike when it crashed outside the Old Tree Inn pub.

The bike, a green Honda TRX420, had been travelling away from Leeds Road when the collision occurred.

It has since been recovered from the scene, with the road reopened to the public at about 13:30 on Friday.
