Construction skills training base opens in city

A training facility offering people a chance to learn sustainable construction skills has opened in Worcester.
The purpose-built centre includes a workshop, storeroom and classroom that will be used to teach plumbing, carpentry and other skills.
GLP training, which is delivering the courses, said they were essential skills that were in demand amid a local and nationwide shortage.
The centre was built with government funding after Worcester City Council bid for it as part of its town investment plan.
Named Building Block Two, the facility has been built on Shap Drive in Dines Green, with the first project helping hundreds of learners, the council said.
David Blake, the city council's managing director, said: "These centres play a vital role in bringing people together, offering support and learning for residents of all ages.
"It's fantastic to see Building Block Two come to life."
The centre is operated by Worcester Community Trust, which is working with GLP Training.
Gemma Parsons, GLP training's chief executive, said it was a "fantastic opportunity not only to support local individuals and employers with high-quality training, but also to attract students and businesses from across the UK".
She said it would strengthen the local workforce and boost wider economic growth.
