Plans for 430 homes near the Kent village of Whitfield have been recommended for approval

Plans to build 430 homes on the edge of a Kent village could be approved next week.

Property firm Danescroft said it wanted to build a new estate including houses, football pitches and infrastructure on land south of Church Whitfield Road in Whitfield, near Dover.

Despite objections from the village's parish council and residents, the plans have been recommended for approval ahead of a Dover District Council planning committee meeting on 23 April.

A report on the plans found the proposals "would provide very significant social and economic benefits" but the parish council said the development "remains contrary to the wishes of Whitfield residents".

The report added that the plans would be appropriate for the area and safeguarded the "character and appearance of the area", including its Grade II-listed church.

As part of the plans, 30% of the new homes would be classed as "affordable".
