A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Barnsley.

The 56-year-old was found unresponsive at a house in Summer Lane, Wombwell, on Tuesday and later pronounced dead.

South Yorkshire Police said a 58-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and was being held in custody.

Appealing for information, Det Ch Insp Simon Cartwright said: "Although we are in the early stages of our investigation, we have a team of detectives working around the clock to understand the circumstances surrounding the woman's death."
