Police suspect arson after man saved in house fire

Police have said they suspect a house fire from which a man in his 80s had to be rescued was an arson attack.
Firefighters pulled the man from the ground floor of the terraced home on Stamford Road in Longsight, after they were called to the fire at about 01:40 BST.
He was taken by ambulance to hospital and remains in a stable condition, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
The force is now appealing for witnesses to come forward with information, and are running extra patrols in the area.
A GMP spokesman said no arrests had been made.
The fire was put out by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), who were at the scene for about two hours.
