Road crash leads to attempted murder probe

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a two-vehicle crash.

There were reports of an altercation before a grey Ford Fiesta car and a motorcycle collided on the A183 Whitburn Road in Seaburn, Sunderland, at about 19:40 BST on Thursday.

The motorcycle rider, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody, Northumbria Police said.

The road was closed overnight but reopened on Friday.

Detectives urged anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the crash to contact police.
