A thunderstorm weather warning has been issued for the south-east of England.

The yellow weather warning, covering Kent, Sussex and Surrey, begins at 11:00 BST on Monday and will run until 21:00.

The Met Office issued the warning, saying a few places "could see 30 to 50mm of rain within a couple of hours" in the afternoon and early evening.

It follows on from an amber thunderstorm alert, which was in effect from 04:00 on Saturday to 11:00 and a yellow alert until 21:00.

The Met Office said it recommended people not to shelter underneath trees and instead use a safe, enclosed shelter, such as a car.

It added that driving conditions might become more difficult due to spray and possible flooding.

Some public transport services could also be affected by the weather conditions.

People are advised to prepare an emergency flood kit, if they know they are in an area that is prone to flooding.

As well as covering the South East, the warning covers much of England and Scotland, including places such as Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham and Newcastle.
