Police are treating the death of a 53-year-old man in North Lanarkshire as suspicious after a post-mortem examination suggested he had been the victim of an attack.

The body of James McMaster was found when officers were called to Maxton Crescent in Wishaw at about 14:10 on Thursday 5 December.

Police Scotland said door-to-door inquiries and additional patrols in the area were continuing, while CCTV footage from around the scene was being reviewed.

They are appealing for anyone who knew Mr McMaster and what his movements were to get in touch.

Det Ch Insp Bob Williamson, from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, said: "We are in the process of building a picture of James' movements, who he saw, where he went, and we can only do that with details from those who knew him or saw him.

"I would urge anyone who knew James to think back to the last time they saw or spoke to him and to get in touch with us with any details.

"Let us decide what's significant so we can find answers for James' family and friends."
