A coastal road in the east of the Isle of Man has been closed for the removal of a tree that became unstable following recent storm force winds.

An emergency road closure has been put in place on King Edward Road in Onchan between Port Jack and its junction with the A2 in Lonan until 13:30 GMT.

The Department of Infrastructure said the tree was on government-owned land north of the former Groudle Pub near Groudle Glen and diversions were in place.

Whitebridge Road in the village is also set to be closed for tree felling on Thursday between 09:30 and 13:30, the department said.

During that closure, the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is set to fell a roadside tree in the area of Molly Quirks Glen on "safety grounds".

The alternative route on Thursday would be through King Edward Road.
