Public urged to avoid area affected by wild fire

Emergency services are dealing with a wild fire which has broken out in woodland in the north of Scotland.

Fire crews were first alerted to the blaze in the Culbin Forest area - which stretches around 20 miles from Nairn, Highlands, to Burghead in Elgin, Moray - at 08:37 on Monday.

At about 18:00 a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At this time we have four pumps, an ATV, two wildfire units and a water carrier present. The fire is still ongoing.

"The affected area was approximately 500m by 250m as of this morning."

Police Scotland said it had received reports of the incident at about 15:10.

There have been no reported injuries.

Members of the public have been asked to avoid the area between Nairn and Burghead.
