Woman gets parking charge cancelled after appeal
A woman who claimed she was wrongly issued with a parking charge said she has had it cancelled after an appeal.
Sharron Paragreen received the £90 bill from Parkingeye, which manages a Lidl car park in Hull using cameras that record car number plates.
She said she parked outside the neighbouring Costa coffee shop, which shares the same entrance as the supermarket in Hedon Road.
A Parkingeye spokesperson said the charge was correctly issued but it had cancelled it as "a gesture of goodwill".
After refusing to pay the fee and taking her complaint to industry regulator Parking on Private Land Appeal (POPLA), Mrs Paragreen said the parking company had withdrawn the ticket.
"We're very pleased that it's ended," Mrs Paragreen said.
"But it's taken a lot of time and effort, especially on my husband's part to get to the point that we're at now.
"Most people would just pay it, but obviously I didn't park there and I wasn't going to let that go because I knew where I parked and that was Costa Coffee."
Mrs Paragreen, from Burstwick in East Yorkshire, said she parked in the Costa car park on 4 December and left well within the three-hour limit advertised on signs.
The Lidl car park next door has a 90-minute limit.
She challenged the charge with Parkingeye, which was rejected.
After the firm did not answer a request for CCTV footage of her allegedly parking in the supermarket, she took her appeal to POPLA.
Mrs Paragreen said parking firms should "stop doing this".
"It's just not fair on the normal people," she said.
A Parkingeye spokesperson said: "Our systems show that the motorist's vehicle did not enter the Costa car park and additional manual checks have since been carried out to ensure accuracy.
"Therefore, the motorist correctly received a parking charge for overstaying the maximum 90-minute period."
They added: "The motorist's appeal was rejected due to not providing evidence or reasons for breaking the rules of the car park.
"Despite this we have now cancelled the charge as a gesture of goodwill at the request of the client."
