Warwickshire Police have suspended three officers and a special constable following allegations they sent inappropriate messages via WhatsApp.

The superintendent, chief inspector and sergeant were suspended on February 10th and 12th, the special constable was suspended in November last year.

Warwickshire Police said the suspensions were in connection to an ongoing internal investigation.

"We expect the highest standards from all our officers, staff and volunteers and where there are concerns or allegations that these aren't being met we will take action," a spokesperson said.

"We are committed to being open and transparent around such processes and will share more information when appropriate."

In October, a separate officer was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was suspended by the force in November.

He was taken into custody by other Warwickshire Police officers carrying out an investigation under the direction of the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

He has since been released on bail.

The IOPC said no charges have been brought.
