Moment burglar punches through jewellery cabinet
CCTV footage has shown the moment a masked burglar punched and kicked a glass counter in a jewellery stop to break it open before running off with more than £2,000 of stock.
The burglar, Stephen Craig, 44, of Manchester, has been jailed for two years for robbery of a business after leaving his blood at the scene.
Footage of the crime, released by Greater Manchester Police, shows Craig entering the Stockport shop in January 2025 and telling a a staff member "give me everything you've got" before she pressed a personal attack alarm, alerting police.
He is then seen smashing into the cabinet, pulling away broken glass, reaching in and running off with an armful of jewellery.
Craig, of Kingfisher Close, left blood on the glass counter and was identified using DNA testing.
The attack caused £3,287 in damage to the business, with £2,483 of stock being stolen and £807 of damage being caused, police said.
Det Const Peter Viney said: "This was an opportunistic crime that left several staff members at the business traumatised by the ordeal they were put through.
"Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident."
He said all the stolen items were returned to the business and he hoped the sentencing provided "some comfort that justice has been done".
