Tributes have been paid to "a big family man" who died when he was struck by a car.

Anthony Liddell, 57, was walking along Shenley Road, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, at about 21:00 GMT on 22 February, when the collision took place.

His family said of the father-of-two: "If we had to use one word to sum up who Ant was as a person, it would be 'loveable'."

Police said a man, 61, from Edgware, north London, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, had been released on bail.

Mr Liddell is survived by his partner, mother, brother and two sons aged 15 and 20.

His family described him as a familiar face in the town, who was born and bred in Elstree and had many friends in the area.

"He was an incredibly social and lively person who loved his football, supporting both Arsenal and Borehamwood," they said.

"He was also a big family man, and he would always help someone in need."

The family also thanked people for the "many lovely messages" they had received since Mr Liddell's death.
