Plans to improve safety at a crash blackspot in Leeds have been revealed.

The city council said there had been 71 collisions around the Roundhay Road, Barrack Road and Bayswater Triangle area over the last seven years.

One person had died as a result while 14 others were seriously hurt and 56 people suffered minor injuries.

A public consultation running until 20 April is seeking views on changes to key junctions around the Bayswater Triangle and the introduction of segregated bus and cycle lanes along the route, plus improved pedestrian crossings.

Because of the number of collisions along the route, the council said it had been identified as it "number one site of concern".

Councillor Jonathan Pryor, deputy leader of Leeds City Council and executive member for economy, transport, and sustainable development, said: "The area is prone to an alarming number of collisions over the previous seven years, with 35% of casualties involving people walking and cycling.

"These plans should deliver enhanced safety measures for all road users, especially people walking and cycling, whilst helping to ease congestion and improve bus reliability.

"Your input is essential to ensure these changes meet community needs."
