Lidl plans new store and houses on former abattoir

Supermarket firm Lidl has announced plans for a new store and 17 new homes on the site of a former Wolverhampton abattoir.
FA Gills, an abattoir and meat packing company off Parkfield Road, ceased trading and closed in 2023.
Under the plans up to 40 jobs would be created, the supermarket said.
After a public consultation, Lidl will submit a planning application to the city council.
"Lidl has identified this site as a suitable location nearby to local residents and an opportunity to regenerate this site with a new foodstore which provides new jobs," the firm said.
"The site would also include around 17 new homes in a sustainable location nearby to local services."
There would also be 110 customer parking spaces including accessible and parent and child bays, along with electric vehicle chargers and cycle parking.
Cycle and pedestrian access would also be provided, it added.
