Warm weather leads to wildfire amber alert
@Walney_IslandAn amber alert for increased wildfire risk has been issued across Cumbria due to the warm weather.
Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) said the warning covered the region for the next day, as parts of the UK face higher than average temperatures.
It comes after several wildfires broke out in various locations in the county earlier in April.
"Wildfires have the potential to devastate the Lake District landscape, kill animals and ruin habitats," LDNPA said.
The authority urged people to "not light fires, take litter home with you and leave no trace".
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service advised those who see a wildfire to:
- Move to a place of safety and report it by calling 999
- Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself
- Give as much information as you can including the size of the fire, location, and terrain
- Always follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities
