A former officer has been banned from policing after punching a man in the head at a pub.

Former PC Cameron Talbot, who worked for Gloucestershire Police, was off duty when he was involved in the incident at a pub in Bishop's Cleeve, near Tewkesbury, in March 2024.

A misconduct panel found Mr Talbot breached the police's professional standards, and he would have been dismissed had he not already resigned.

Deputy chief constable Katy-Barrow-Grint said: "Whether on duty or off duty, police officers have a duty to conduct themselves in a manner befitting their role as a public servant."

"Former PC Talbot will have known this. His action's risk damaging the public's trust in the police service," she added.

DCC Barrow-Grint said police officers were already at the pub carrying out enquiries in relation to another incident when the fight broke out.

Mr Talbot "failed to listen to the commands of the two other offices" and instead of helping to deescalate the situation, behaved "aggressively", the hearing was told.

Both officers eventually deployed their Pava spray on Mr Talbot, with one officer drawing their Taser, although it wasn't discharged.

The former officer was originally charged with battery and assaulting an emergency worker but the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) offered no evidence at court.
