Samuel Gill, from Huddersfield, pleaded guilty to violent disorder

A man has been jailed for his involvement in serious disorder in the Harehills area of Leeds last summer.

Samuel Gill, of Oak Road in Huddersfield, admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday.

A bus was torched and a police car flipped on its side as hundreds of people took to the streets on 18 July.

Ch Supt Steve Dodds from West Yorkshire Police said the disorder, which saw emergency services retreat for their own safety, had caused "significant distress to communities".

"Our investigation very much remains ongoing, and it is not too late for anyone who has information about other people involved to do so," he added.

Gill is the 21st person to be convicted in relation to the incident, according to West Yorkshire Police.

The force said 76 people had been arrested as part of the investigation with 35 of them charged.
