Prolific shoplifter banned from supermarkets

A prolific shoplifter has been banned from entering every Co-op and Sainsbury's in East Sussex.

Lee Parnaby of Terminus Road, Eastbourne, is now subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which also bans him from any Tesco store in the town.

Also included in the CBO is Marks and Spencer in Terminus Road, Asda in the Crumbles and Morrisons in Grove Road.

Sussex Police sought the order to prevent further offending by the 32-year-old, who who has been convicted of 50 counts of shoplifting since March 2024.

He appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court on 7 January charged with two counts of shoplifting. He pleaded guilty to both charges.

Parnaby is also prohibited from remaining on any retail premises within the county of Sussex after being asked to leave by the owner, any member of staff or security staff operating at that premises.

The order will last for five years, with breaches punishable by a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment for adults.

Inspector Sarah Taylor, from Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the CBO is "a real success and serves to protect retailers in the longer term".
