A trail of original, contemporary artwork has gone on display in a city centre.

The community interest company Gloucester Contemporary Artists (GCA) has created the trail in the city as part of the Adopt An Artist event in a bid to make contemporary art accessible and engaging for members of the public.

During the month-long event, shops, cafes and businesses in the city centre are displaying artwork made by local professional artists in their windows.

"We want to get the people of Gloucester involved in temporary art by having a go themselves," said David Finch, from GCA.

"Gloucester doesn't have a central art space for showing contemporary art, so we're currently looking at ways in which we can bring contemporary art to people," he added.

As well as the trail, the company is running a competition for budding artists.

Those wishing to enter are asked to create a piece inspired by their favourite artwork on the trail.

A selection of the entries will be exhibited at the Cathedral Quarter from 21 June, hung alongside the piece that inspired it.

The best three entries will win prizes and will be on display until 28 June.

The Gloucester Art Trail ends 30 June.
