A teenage boy was arrested after a child was injured in a collision involving a motorcycle.

Northamptonshire Police was called to The Rylstone, in Wellingborough, at about 18:30 GMT on Thursday.

The child, who was a pedestrian and aged under 10, was taken to hospital but officers said the injuries were not life-threatening.

The 16-year-old was held on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving, leaving the scene of a collision, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

He has been released under investigation.

The force said neighbourhood officers would carry out patrols in the area.

"I know an incident like this causes huge concern to the local community, and I want to provide my reassurance that it is being taken very seriously," said Ch Insp Carl Wilson.
