A decision is to be made on a proposal to replace a hospital in Surrey with a new NHS neighbourhood hub.

On Wednesday, Elmbridge Borough Council will make a decision on the potential new hub at the Elm Grove site to replace the Walton-on-Thames Community Hospital.

The council said a new hub would allow the hospital's services to be expanded and to facilitate a seven-day service.

However, Walton-on-Thames Bowling Club could be demolished after more than 100 years to make way for the new centre.

The council said the current 19 GP practice rooms could be increased to 26, on top of at least seven more planned services including complex wound care, talking therapies for anxiety and depression, and maternity services.

"It will provide a modern, integrated health hub while preserving green spaces and enhancing the much-valued Elm Grove recreation ground, ensuring it remains a vibrant and valuable space for everyone to enjoy," a council spokesperson said.

If the proposal is approved and the land is sold to the council's NHS development partner North-West Surrey Alliance, the plan will still be subject to planning permission.
