A motorcycle rider has died following a hit and run crash involving a sports car on the M2.

Emergency services arrived on the scene between Chatham and Hempstead near Gillingham at 14:30 GMT where the man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead.

The purple McLaren initially left the scene but the driver was found and later arrested by Kent Police and is being held in custody.

The force are asking anyone with information including "any footage capturing the manner of driving from either vehicles prior to the collision" to come forward.

National Highways said diversions are likely to be in place until the end of the day.

The BBC has contacted Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service for more information.
