A 27-year-old has been charged with attempted murder after a man was seriously hurt in a machete attack in a neighbourhood shop.

The victim was taken to hospital after the assault on Saturday at about 19:50 BST at the store on Kentmere Road in Breightmet, Bolton, Greater Manchester Police said.

Dale Dean of Upper West Grove, Ardwick, has been charged with attempted murder, affray and possession of a bladed article after the attack, the force added.

He is set to appear before Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court later.

A man in his 30s who had been arrested on Saturday after the attack has been released by police and no futher action will be taken, a force spokesman added.
