Work starts on pedestrian route to train station

Work to improve pedestrian access to a railway station is due to begin.
The Station Road approach to Castleford Station will gain wider pavements, more restricted vehicle access and improved lighting.
The project, funded by the Transpennine Route Upgrade scheme, will also see the road and pavement between Station Road and the car park resurfaced.
Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council's cabinet member for highways, said the route would be "safer and more user-friendly for pedestrians and cyclists".

Wakefield Council said any parking breaches on new double-yellow lines would be "strictly enforced" to deter motorists from blocking the road or pavements.
Michael Graham, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "We hope to encourage more people to come into Castleford and support the many great, independent retailers we have here, alongside the town's fantastic market."
He said he was "pleased" to see improvements continuing around the station.
Work is due to be finished by 4 April, with the access road closed throughout but traffic on the main Station Road remaining unaffected.
