A former Metropolitan Police sergeant has pleaded not guilty to taking upskirting images when travelling on public transport while on and off duty.

Christopher Herd, 48, was charged by Essex Police with one count of indecent exposure and three counts of upskirting on 13 April.

Mr Herd, of Capel St Mary in Suffolk, was arrested on 30 August on suspicion of indecent exposure while he was off duty, and later arrested on suspicion of the other offences.

He appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court earlier wearing a white shirt, tie and black trousers and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

It has been alleged Mr Herd took the images between March and July 2024.

He was suspended from his job when he was first arrested and later resigned on 1 March.
