Scotland welcomes the first babies of 2025
The first babies of the new year have been welcomed into the world at maternity units across Scotland.
Archie McGibbon arrived just after the bells, at three minutes past midnight at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow.
Weighing in at 4.14kg (9lbs 2oz), mum Amy and partner Nathan Perry said they were "over the moon".
Over on the eastern side of the country, Alexander Glover was among the the first Scots born in 2025, at 00:41 at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
He arrived a bit earlier than expected, weighing in at 2.35kg (5lbs 3oz) - but mum Katia was delighted, even though dad Jonny is currently out of the country.
"He came a little early, which was a lovely surprise. Jonny is still away working abroad, but we can't wait for him to meet his son," she said.
Meanwhile at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, Charlotte and Charlie Anthony were patiently awaiting the arrival of their newborn who had been due on 20 December.
Baby Gabriel finally ended their long wait at 01:47, weighing in at (4.2kg) 9lbs 4oz.
Like other New Year parents they expressed their gratitude to NHS staff who worked over the holiday period to give them the support the needed.
"The midwives were excellent, so patients," said Charlotte.
