Large tyre fire sends plumes of smoke into sky

Residents have been advised to keep windows and doors closed after a large tyre fire sent huge plumes of smoke into the sky.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was dealing with the fire near Broadwell, close to Carterton and the border with Gloucestershire, on Wednesday evening.

Firefighters from Burford, Carterton, Bampton and Faringdon had been sent to deal with the blaze, the service said.

"This incident is likely to protract through the night so please bear with us," it added.
