A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two people were stabbed in separate incidents in Hull, Humberside Police has said.

Officers were called to Buckingham Street at about 02:00 GMT where a 35-year-old man was found with a stab wound to his stomach and head injuries.

An hour later, a 33-year-old woman was found with wounds to her neck in Rosmead Street.

Police said a 48-year-old man had been detained on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Det Insp Mark Skelton said: "Following multiple lines of inquiry over the course of the day, a 48-year-old man has now been arrested.

"The 33-year-old woman remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the 35-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries which are no longer thought to be life threatening.

"I would like to offer my reassurance that we believe this to be an incident between individuals known to each other."

The force said an increased police presence and multiple scene guards remained in place on Barnsley Street, Buckingham Street and Rosmead Street.

Anyone with relevant information or CCTV has been asked to get in contact with police.
