A man has been charged following a rooftop incident that caused long delays for commuters in Hull.

Humberside Police were called to the Gilson Hotel, Anlaby Road, at 05:00 BST on Wednesday, after reports of a man on the roof.

Gary Cawthorne, 39, of no fixed abode, has been charged with intentionally causing a public nuisance, two counts of criminal damage, and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He was remanded into custody to appear at Hull Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Parts of Anlaby Road and Ferensway were closed for several hours, causing long delays for commuters.

The BBC saw at least seven police vehicles at the scene as well as two fire engines, two ambulances and a fast-response paramedic vehicle.

The cordon was lifted shortly after 10:30.
