Sheep left seriously injured after dog attack
Two loose dogs have worried a sheep and left it with serious injuries near a National Park.
North Yorkshire Police said the two animals scattered livestock at the Cod Beck "sheep wash" car park near Osmotherley on the edge of the North York Moors at 12:00 GMT last Sunday.
After one of them attacked a sheep, a member of the public tried to intervene and separate the animals using a stick.
The force warned dog owners that in such circumstances, farmers are legally entitled to shoot a pet.
Sheep worrying is a criminal offence and dog owners must keep their animal on a lead around livestock.
One of the dogs involved was described as a light brown-coloured crossbreed.
North Yorkshire Police appealed for the owner of the dogs to come forward along with any witnesses to the incident.
