Four boys and a man have been arrested after a stolen car was stopped by police.

A Nissan Micra, reported stolen from Blythe Bridge, Stoke-on-Trent, was spotted by officers on the A500 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, shortly after 23:30 BST on Wednesday, police said.

The vehicle was stopped after a short pursuit on the southbound carriageway, the Staffordshire force added.

The boys - two aged 17, one 15 and one 16 – and an 18-year-old man, all from Stoke-on-Trent, were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

They have all been released on conditional bail while inquiries continue, a police spokesperson confirmed.
