Man, 84, dies in jail while accused of wife's murder

A man charged with the murder of his wife in the Scottish Borders has died in jail.
John Hanson was accused of killing Margaret Maude Hanson, 84, at the couple's home on Wood Street in Galashiels in December last year.
Hanson, 84, made no plea during two separate hearings at Selkirk and Jedburgh Sheriff Courts.
However, the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed he died at HMP Edinburgh on 9 April.
The SPS said that a Fatal Accident Inquiry to determine the cause of his death would be held in due course
